Dictator de Interrex Bacchus Solomanus decrees that the magistry for judicial affairs will be structured as follows:
Emperor: The Emperor has ultimate judicial authority and may name representatives for such purposes, he has original jurisdiction over any civil or criminal case he wishes to take on, as well as appellate jurisdiction over any civil or criminal case he wishes to take on, and ultimate authority over them.
Praetores Maximi: Two men assigned by the emperor, one to cover civil issues (Praetor Maximus Privatum) and one to cover criminal issues (Praetor Maximus Publicum). These men have appellate jurisdiction over the entire empire, for their area of control. Name all lower judges unless overruled by the Emperor or his representative. Will be expected to keep updated a codex with all precedents and decisions rendered by the courts, as well as the court opinions rendered in their field of authority (civil or criminal law). Comes with the rank of Comes and a yearly salary of 100. Shall not be related by blood.
Praetores Rusticae: Judges given authority over an entire province, have appellate jurisdiction over all criminal cases judged by quaesitors, and are expected to travel over their province to render judgement on cases that have been appealed since the last praetor rustica traveled through. Have original jurisdiction of all civil cases within their province except those dealt with by the Praetores Urbani, and all criminal cases that are passed over by Praetores Urbani or local magistrates, as well as appellate authority over civil and criminal cases judged by the praetores urbani or quaesitors. Praetores Maximi Publici may name these men, who may not be related by blood to one another or the Praetores Maximi during their term. Two year term, cannot be renamed to the position for ten years after the last posting to this position. Must have never been convicted of a criminal offense.
Praetores Urbani: Judges assigned to important cities (usually provincial capitals or trading centers) where judicial authority is required more often than in the rustic areas of provinces. Original jurisdiction over civil cases within their assigned area, as well as appellate jurisdiction over criminal cases. Praetores Maximi Privatum may name these men, who may not be related by blood to one another or the Praetores Maximi during their term. Two year term, cannot be renamed to the position for six years after the last posting to this position. Must have never been convicted of a criminal offense.
Quaesitors will be given original jurisdiction over criminal cases that occur within their assigned area.
