Northern Gepidia is aflame with rebellion, into this rebellion stepped Elemundus as Liberator of the Gepids, backed up by a Lombardic force he has marched into Porolisum with ease.

"Slipped in like a greased pig, eh?"
Gaius wheeled his horse and tightened the reins. "Bring out my reserves from Germisara we march to Apulum to meet the advance guard there. Give me Elemundus!"
He had been caught out, but not surprised entirely. Porolissum was a march south from the Danube. It was also the direction in which the Gepid had taken his force in retreat from the last war. Damned Liberius failed to follow up on the pursuit. If only the cavalry promised by Liberius were at hand. Damn politics!
Gaius sent messengers to Sarmagetusa to warn Mundus to call up his loyal Dacians and to alert his own force stationed there. A raid could prove dangerous but Gaius had 400 men at the Dacian royal city. Solomanus had said he wanted peace in Dacia. Ah, well. Fortunately, Gaius also had his men within the ranks of Dacian nobility to spy out any defection there. They wanted bodyguards, he gave them that and more.
He sent other messengers to his praeventores along the western limes. "Be on watch for a Lombard advance." No one marches the long way around and hopes to cover the length of Dacia against an army on defense. He suspected a strong force in the north with a flanking action against the western frontier. Or the other way around .... ha! He ordered that 2000 men from that force march to Germisara and onwards to join him near Apulum.
When he heard from his scouts he would know more. For now he marched at the reported position of Elemundus. It wouldn't do to disappoint the enemy, would it now? He took 3000 men toward Apulum to meet his 400 men stationed on that flank. 4000 men on the western limes became his reserve. Unless the worst happened and all of Lombard fell upon his flank. And behind them perhaps the Goths. Lovely day.
Finally, Gaius sent word to his Dux demanding his whole army in support at Germisara without delay.
"So, Diana, with me or with the children?"
Summary: 300 troops at Apulum. 3000 troops marching from Germisara to Apulum with Gaius Porcis. 2000 troops moving from reserve to Germisara then on to Porcis at Apulum. 2000 troops with many praeventores on the limes west of Germisara. Mundus and Dux alerted along with 300 troops at Sarmagetusa. Also 400 troops on detached duty with Dacian nobility alert for defections.

With all this trouble in the Balkans I think someone should consider getting out my son's report on putting some naval forces on the Danube
