Gerwulf Ambassador to king Athalric, King of the Ostrogoths stood before the royal court and adressed them, his tone was calm and collecting as he surveyed everything around him. His fiery eyes settled on the important men of the realm as he begun his address...
"Noble lords of Constantinople, I stand before on an errand for my master, King Athalric of the Ostrogoths, he brings you greetings and questions which will need to be answered before I leave this room today. As you well know Magister Militum et Praetorian Prefect Petrus Patricius is enforcing a campaign in Ostrogothic Sicily which is an act of war against the Ostrogothic throne. My master wishes to know this, has the Byzantine realm committed an act of war or is Petrus Patricius acting alone. If he is acting alone why has this court in particular the men who rule as regents done nothing to stop such an act? As you can see my master is most anxious to hear your words."
(This is addressed to the whole of the court especially at those acting as regent.)

Dictator de Interrex Bacchus Solomanus stood from his position at the head of the court and strode forcefully towards Gerwulf. "I don't know if your king has lied to you about the reality of this situation and you are lying, or if he is trying to pull the wool over both of our eyes, but let me give you a description of the reality of the situation."
He turned to face the magistrates who had been assembled around him, then turned back to Gerwulf, "Your master has several members of the personal guard of Petrus Patricius. These men were also Byzantine citizens. This was certainly a cause for war, as far as I can tell, but Patricius assured me that this would be dealt with personally, as they were his men and his responsibility.
"You should attend to your King and tell him that the Byzantine Empire has not declared war on him, in spite of your kingdom's hostile actions. Return the men to Patricius, negotiate an end to the war that you have declared upon his person, and be glad that we have not attacked you, as we justly could have."
Bacchus moved back to his seat and reclined upon it.
